돈은 “사물의 가치를 나타내고, 상품의 교환을 매개하며, 재산 축적의 대상으로도 사용하는 물건”이라는 사전적 정의처럼 중립적이기만 한 것은 아닙니다. 누군가에게는 소소한 행복을 안겨 주는 말할 수 없이 유용한 수단이 되기도 하지만, 또 누군가에게는 파멸로 몰아가는 파괴적 수단이 되기도 합니다. 돈이 가진 이러한 위력을 여러분은 잘 알고 있습니까?

성경의 돈 이야기는 ‘은혜 이야기’입니다.
저는 그동안 돈과 관련하여 설교했던 성경본문 내용이 모두 은혜와 연결되어 있다는 사실을 발견했습니다. 돈이 언제나 은혜와 연결되어 있다는 말을 뒤집어 표현하면, 은혜 없이 돈에 관해 가르치거나 다룰 때 우리는 언제나 “시험과 올무와 여러 가지 어리석고 해로운 욕심에 떨어져 파멸과 멸망에 빠지게 하는”(딤전 6:9) 심각한 위험에 놓일 수밖에 없다는 것입니다. 돈은 죄성과 만나는 대신 은혜와 만나야 합니다.

기독교는 언제나 ‘하나님’으로부터 시작합니다.
하나님께서 죄인에게 먼저 은혜를 베푸심으로써 복음이 시작됩니다. 피조물이요 죄인인 인간은 하나님의 복을 얻어내기 위해서 먼저 하나님을 사랑할 수 없습니다. 또한 하나님께 의미 있을 만한 선을 행할 수 없습니다. “누가 주께 먼저 드려서 갚으심을 받겠느냐”(롬 11:35). 아무도 하나님께 먼저 무엇인가를 드려서 하나님으로 하여금 갚아야겠다고 생각하시게 할 수 없습니다. 그 누구도 하나님을 빚지게 할 수 없습니다. 그 어떤 존재도 말입니다! 세상의 모든 피조물은 창조주 하나님으로부터 오직 받을 뿐입니다.

하나님이 은혜를 베푸시고, 우리는 그 은혜에 감격하여 반응합니다.
이 은혜가 돈을 거룩하게 하고 영광스럽게 합니다. 아무쪼록 이 책을 통해 성도들이 돈 때문에 망하는 것이 아니라, 돈에 감춰진 은혜의 신비를 보다 깊이 경험하여 하나님을 영화롭게 하는 자리에 서기를 바랍니다. 그래서 다윗이 인생의 마지막 순간 드렸던 “나와 내 백성이 무엇이기에 이처럼 즐거운 마음으로 드릴 힘이 있었나이까. 모든 것이 주께로 말미암았사오니 우리가 주의 손에서 받은 것으로 주께 드렸을 뿐이니이다”(대상 29:14)라는 고백이 우리 모두의 고백이 되고 한국 교회 모든 성도의 고백이 되기를 간절히 바랍니다.

책의 본문중에서

하나님께서 목표액을 정해 주는 대신 “기쁜 마음으로 내는 자가 내게 바치는 모든 것”을 받으라고만 말씀하시는 것은 옛날 모세 시대에나 가능했다고 말할 수 있을까요? 성경은 헌금과 관련하여 일관되게 이 조건 곧 ‘기쁘게 내는 것’을 말하고 있습니다. 헌금이라는 주제를 다루는 성경의 거의 모든 본문이 ‘드리는 자의 기쁨’을 언급하고 있다는 사실은 결코 가볍게 볼 일이 아닙니다. 드리는 자의 기쁨이 중요한 이유는 헌금이 늘 은혜와 연결되어야 하기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 베풀어 주신 은혜에 대한 반응은 언제나 기쁨입니다. 은혜를 받은 사람은 예외 없이 하늘의 기쁨으로 기뻐합니다. 그 기쁨이 헌금을 통하여 표현되는 것입니다. 사람은 헌금의 양을 중요하게 여길지 모르지만, 하나님은 드리는 사람의 태도가 언제나 기쁨이 되어야 한다고 말씀하십니다.
_ ‘2. 건축과 돈’ 중에서

이런 점에서 일방통행은 없습니다. 만일 돈과 물질만 생각한다면 이것은 일방통행일 수 있습니다. 그러나 바울은 지금 고린도 교회가 돈을 예루살렘 교회에 보내지만, 예루살렘 교회는 기도로 고린도 교회를 축복할 수 있다고 생각합니다. 사실, 고린도 교회가 예루살렘 교회를 위해서 돈을 보내 주기 전에 그들은 예루살렘 교회로부터 복음의 빚을 진 사람들이었습니다. 일방통행은 없습니다. 우리가 누구를 돕든지, 자신은 그저 주기만 한다고 생각하는 것은 좋은 태도가 아닙니다. 그리고 이런 생각은 우리 자신에게도 유익하지 않습니다. 바울은 로마서에서 이방인 교회인 로마 교회와 예루살렘 교회의 쌍방통행적 관계를 이렇게 표현했습니다. 저희가 기뻐서 하였거니와 또한 저희는 그들에게 빚진 자니 만일 이방인들이 그들의 영적인 것을 나눠 가졌으면 육적인 것으로 그들을 섬기는 것이 마땅하니라(롬 15:27). 이것은 비단 이방인 교회와 예루살렘 교회의 관계에 국한되지 않습니다. 목사와 교인, 교회와 선교사, 선교사와 선교지 사람들과의 관계 모두에 적용될 수 있습니다. 이 관계의 원리에는 세상적 관계에서 형성되는 갑과 을이 존재하지 않습니다. 모두가 은혜를 누리는 자들이며 특권을 행사하는 자들입니다. 그리고 이 관계에서는 하나님께서 갚아 주시는 은혜를 풍성하게 경험하게 됩니다. 모든 상황에서 성도들은 이 쌍방통행적 관계에서 생각하는 것이 유익하고 성경적입니다.

Returns & Exchanges
